Overall Personality: Merry is usually pretty outgoing, talkative, and loud in personality. She's instantly friendly and fiercely loyal. She's fair-minded, and always ends up playing devil's advocate, even when she doesn't necessarily want to. Only to those who get to know her really well will she come off as a touch melancholy, as if there's a great sadness that lies below the surface. She's a nature lover and an environmentalist, and has a great love of world mythology.
-HISTORY-
Hometown: Merry was born in Ireland, but moved with her father to Nova Scotia. After graduating from Aurora, and playing her part in the worldwide war against Voldemort and his Death Eaters, she moved around quite a bit across Canada. Before returning to Aurora, she had been living in a small town in Ottawa with the man she had married.
Family: Merry is the only child of an Irish wizard named Declan and an Irish Muggle named Tamsin. Her mother passed away when Merry was only a child from a horseback riding incident, and Merry herself shies away from horses even to this day. Merry's father is still alive and well, having remarried another Irish lass, and living contentedly in the retired life, finally returning to his homeland.
Overall History: After Merry's mother's death, her father, Declan, took his little girl and they moved far away, joining some of Declan's old friends in Nova Scotia. Merry was taken in by a community of witches and wizards and was raised in their ways, so it was no surprise to anyone when she was called to join Aurora, though her dad had always wanted her to attend Hogwarts in the UK like he had.
At Aurora, Merry had been a student in the Roane House, and she had made many friends, but none so much as her dear friend Thomas Raines. As adults, it was at Merry's insistence that he finally returned to Aurora, just as she had. After Merry had graduated from Aurora, she and her father took a trip back to Ireland on the ten year anniversary of her mother's death. As a 19 year old young woman, Merry and her father saw firsthand the turmoil of the country under the control of Voldemort's Deatheaters. She and her father joined forces with the Order of the Phoenix, along with many other witches and wizards across the world, and lended their wands to the cause. When the war was finally over, Merry's injured father fell in love with an Irish witch while she nursed him back to health, and Merry found herself in love with a bardic wizard named Gwyddion. He was lighthearted and jovial, always making jokes or bursting into song, or sweeping her into a dance. He hated to have a serious moment, so their few years together passed in a waking blink of the eye. Gwyddion, her husband, had been ill, and despising the serious as much as he did, he never told her. By the time it became evident, it was far too late for even the best of medical witches. Gwyddion passed away after a short five years of marriage, taking the music and joy from Merry's heart, and leaving her husband-less, childless, and quite alone.
After roaming on her own for quite a long time, occasionally taking up residence in Ottawa, she finally found herself drifting back into correspondence with her old Aurora chums. Through them she had learned of the Herbology field opening, and that's where she has now been going on three years. She is still recovering from the great loss of what may have been the only love of her life, but she does everything she can to hide that from the outside world.

Merry Mullein paced back and forth on the street corner in front of several shops. Where was everyone? she wondered, wringing her hands. It was the first organized trip to Snowy Vale for the adults. A few people who were kind enough to stay behind and chaperon the students in their houses had had the Prefects to help them, so that left all the professors and remaining staff with some free time on this clear autumn night.
Merry continued her pacing, feeling the chill of the night air and regretting her choice of outfits. She had settled on the black one-shouldered number that Thomas had picked out for her ages ago, with a black shawl that was nowhere near warm enough for the autumn evening. She felt incredibly silly for wearing such a get-up, especially in the company of her fellow peers. It was quite unprofessional! And a bit risque... and so undignified for her widowed state.
Merry jumped as the clock tower in the center of town began chiming the eight o'clock hour. She sighed again, continuing her pacing, wrapping her shawl ever tighter around herself. If no one showed up in the next five minutes, she told herself, then she would leave. Go back to her apartment in the castle, put on an over-sized fuzzy sweater, and snuggle with a blanket and a large mug of hot tea. That sounded like a slice of heaven right about now.
She looked up at the large clock again. Where was everyone?!
