PLEASE READ AND 'LIKE' TO SHOW THAT YOU'VE READ THESE RULES.
1. No CANON characters- this means no one from the Harry Potter series or next gen, that includes Voldemort's long lost kid somewhere.
2. No GODMODDING- meaning your character cannot be ALL POWERFUL or with any ability or magical skill that "surpasses all others" for immediate defeat.
3. No writing as other characters in your stories, taking away free will (or a chance to argue against what you're writing). If you want to have backstory with a character, discuss that between yourselves in the PLOTTING section. You may reference your past but don't write for another person without permission (AND PLEASE INCLUDE THAT YOU DO HAVE THEIR PERMISSION IN YOUR POST). Likewise, two authors can collaborate on one post via chat or whatever and one may copy it out here as one post, but please, again, PUT THIS IN YOUR POST THAT THIS IS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN YOU AND SAID AUTHOR.
4. Please please please, for my GrammarNazi sensibilities, try to use proper grammar, syntax, and spelling. >.< You only grow as a writer when you do. (But we won't toss you to the wolves if you're not perfect!)
(If you highlight text, then right click, a spellcheck option should be available.)
5. If you do collaborate with another author via a chat or something else, and copy it to a forum post, please clean it up. This means take out the username tags and times and all that. (Ex: username213: 5:37 pm "...") It wouldn't hurt to separate the authors with different colored fonts as well.
6. When you're choosing a faceclaim for your character (meaning a face model), use ONLY real people, such as actors or models or musicians, etc. NO ARTWORK, GRAPHIC ARTWORK, ANIME, OR SIMS (though we have many fans of each). No pictures of yourself, either. If you need help finding someone to help suit your character, ask in the OWL POST OOC area. I'm sure we all can offer suggestions. ALSO, keep the faceclaims age appropriate to the characters. (EX: No Sean Bean as a student and no Selena Gomez as a professor).
7. No faceclaim canons- meaning no using the actors from and/or associated with Harry Potter movies or franchise as your character faceclaims.
8. NO CLIQUES- I know this is hard to do, and even harder to enforce, but please *try* not to only post with certain people. Ignoring others not only creates animosity with fellow players, but also creates an uninviting environment, and no one wants to play in that.
9. We'll be keeping the "supernatural" characters to a MINIMUM- 3 at max. Meaning metamorphmagi (like Tonks), vampires, werewolves, veelas, etc. This also includes out-of-the-norm talents that are not in the books or films, such as wandless magic. If you have a "supernatural" type of character (or even hybrid) you MUST get Admin/Moderator approval before playing them. We would have to decide if your creation is too far-fetched or not.
10. Speaking of "Supernatural," Aurora Borealis is not the place for CROSSOVERS. So, as much as we individually love Doctor Who, Firefly, Arrow, X Men, Avengers, My Little Pony, Charmed, True Blood, Game of Thrones, OR Fifty Shades of Grey, PLEASE DO NOT BRING THOSE CHARACTERS OR UNIVERSES HERE. That would just be way too confusing to keep up with!
11. Obviously, if you post a character for approval, please wait until it has been approved before you add your name and face claims anywhere. Once your character is approved, you can fill out the Face Claim and Who's Who board and then jump into posting your character around the school. We will try to approve your character as soon as possible. Please be patient. No posting until your character is approved!
12. We are mostly of an age to handle adult situations, but there may be some who are younger, or may be more modest than others. For that reason, please try to contain language and sexual situations. If it's super important for your posts, try to include an OOC note in the title or beginning. Such as: "Leandra has a meltdown" OOC: Contains adult language. ProBoards has a block on sexual content, so either write around it (again, only with consent from another player) or keep it PG. Also, if there is a super violent thread, or a situation that can make another uncomfortable, please put a warning (such as rape, violent beating scenes, possible incestuous {egads!} scenario, etc.)
13. Lucky 13. Please try not to simply reply with one sentence. That's not good writing. I'm sure you can muster up at least a few sentences to make up a small paragraph. We do NOT have a minimum word count, but show us that you can write well, please.
14. If you have issues with a player, please handle it maturely. Either come to one of the moderators or admins, in private, or discuss with the person OOC (out of character) privately. There's no need to bring drama to the game, the characters will make enough for themselves.
15. If you have questions, concerns, or even complaints, please notify the ADMINS. This is .:*Seraphyne*:. , ~*~Amber~*~ , or .:ADMIN:. . If a problem is not brought to the ADMINS then we may not know about it, and thus the whole site is treated unfairly when a problem isn't resolved.
