Which school(s) did they attend? Emery is an Aurora Borealis Academy alumni from Roane House, but it was before they had university classes. Emery's Muggle mother wanted her to get a well-rounded (and less witchcraft-associated) education, so she moved to the States to pursue botany and education degrees from Muggle universities.
-PERSONALITY-
Overall Personality: Emery appears to be quiet and meek on the outside, but that's just because of her petite stature and soft voice. Don't let her fool you; she's usually pretty outgoing, talkative, and loud in personality. She's instantly friendly and fiercely loyal. She's fair-minded, and always ends up playing devil's advocate, even when she doesn't necessarily want to. She's a nature lover and an environmentalist, finding spiritual peace when she works with her plants. She's trying to instill these calming practices into her daughter's life.
-HISTORY-
Hometown: Emery was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, but it's not where she calls home. When not at Aurora, Emery and her daughter spend the summers in her aunt's summer cottage in Ontario.
Family: Emery is the second daughter of a Welsh wizard named Daffydd and an American Muggle named Tamara. Her father had attended Hogwarts and fought for the Order of the Phoenix. He went on secret missions for the Order, as well as for the Welsh branch of the Ministry of Magic. He was rarely home and spending time with him was always a treat for Emery.
She has an older sister named Shannara who also has magical skill, but she chose not to attend wizarding school and represses her abilities, denying that she's anything but "normal." Her parents divorced and her mother remarried, having a son named Kent, who is the absolute Muggle norm.
Her father's family, the Fernlilys, are a prosperous wizarding family spread across the UK and Canada, where most branches of the family boast impressive skill in herbology and potions.
Emery herself is divorced as well, and she has a four year old daughter with her named Bridget, who's cute as can be but who's also a mischievous little pixie.
Overall History: Her father, Daffydd, was sent to the North American Ministry of Magic on official OOTP business, and it was in the late 1970s that he met Tamara Scott in a jewelry store. They fell in love after a short time together, though it's now known that Tamara was more in love with Daffydd's air of mystery more than the man himself. They were married, and in record time they had two daughters, Shannara and Emery. It was the very quality that Tamara had loved in Daffydd that made her resent him. Daffydd's magical lifestyle, and his missions for the Welsh Ministry and the Order of the Phoenix, unnerved and frightened Tamara. While he was away fighting for the greater good, Tamara remained at home, alone with two young daughters. Her resentment and bitterness grew, seeing Daffydd's leaving as abandonment. They divorced and she remarried, taking her daughters with her. She went on to remarry and have a son.
Emery stayed in touch with her father, especially as her magic grew and she had no one else to turn to. They were very close, despite their distance. Daffydd would send her messages by owls, which she delighted in, and through the fireplace. (It was actually in an effort to staunch this method of communication that Tamara intentionally moved them into a house with no fireplace for most of Emery's life.) When Emery received her acceptance letter to Aurora Borealis Academy, as well as North American wizarding schools, her father finally stepped in, declaring that he wished Emery to attend Aurora Borealis in Canada, where he was being stationed at the time. He declared that his family would pay for her entire high school career, and anything that she may require. Tamara had refused to let Shannara go when she received her letters, but Shannara hadn't really wanted to go anyhow. Emery, on the other hand, longed for the change. And it was probably only because Emery's magic was beginning to draw attention to the point where Tamara was ready to hide her that she even considered the notion of sending her off to a school of magic.
After she graduated from Aurora Borealis, the years' worth of pleading and apologetic letters from her mother convinced Emery to return to Oregon, taking her mother's advice and attending Muggle universities, just in case the magical lifestyle didn't work out. It was while she was in university that she met Robert. They had a steady, and normal, relationship, and after college they married, like they were supposed to. She got a job teaching botany and plant biology in high school and he was in advertising. They had a quiet and prosperous life. And it was all so very normal. Her mother was overjoyed. Emery continued her magical ways when Robert wasn't home, knowing how much he disliked anything "weird," and it became a heavy burden for Emery to bear. They were already facing the inevitable end of their marriage by the time their daughter Bridget was born.
Emery's father was killed in action on a mission for the Welsh Ministry of Magic. His death came around the time that Emery was going through her divorce. At her father's funeral in Wales, she was finally able to meet the rest of the wizarding side of her family. Her aunt, her father's sister, offered to let Emery and her infant daughter use her summer cottage in Ontario, Canada, and the new mother gratefully accepted, eager to return to Canadian soil. Upon her return she instantly reconnected with longtime friend and old school chum, Thomas Raines.
Emery returned to her alma mater, Aurora Borealis Academy, two years ago to teach Herbology, and was allowed to bring her daughter with her until she was old enough to start kindergarten.
{OPTIONAL}
Mirror of Erised: To build a loving family that is accepting (and encouraging) of magical gifts; something she herself never had.
Boggart: Seeing the form of her daughter, physically attacked because of her magical abilities. She is beyond worried about the life her daughter may have to endure because of her growing magical gifts.
Dementor: While in Muggle school before she received her first Aurora acceptance letter, Emery was teased and bullied, rather cruelly, by her classmates because of her magical gifts. She was too young to know how to handle them, and her father was constantly away on missions. Her sister always hid her talents, preferring to be "normal," and her mother discouraged any kind of oddity.
Patronus: A genet. The first time she came back to Aurora; the overwhelming feeling of coming "home" mingled with the look of wonder on her daughter's young face at seeing deliberate displays of magic being performed.

Emery Fernlily knelt down beside the pallet filled with soil inside the campus greenhouse. She watched as the rich soil sifted through her long fingers, covering the seeds she had spaced evenly in neat rows. She leaned back on her heels, studying her work. "Aguamente," she said softly, and water rose up in the soil. It filled to the top of the pallet, ebbing at the edge, then draining back into the soil. Satisfied, Emery stood up, brushing dirt from the robe she used for gardening.
She looked around the greenhouse, studying the state of each plant. Some were freshly planted, others were mature and flowering. As Emery went along she pruned a little here and there, deftly slicing off the browning spots with the silver boline she kept attached to to the belt of her robe.
As she passed by one young plant she saw that it was a hawthorn sapling. It looked like it was struggling, and losing strength. Emery furrowed her brow, holding her hands over the sapling. She muttered a few words under her breath, and a green light emanated from beneath her hands, engulfing the weak sapling. Emery removed her hands and the plant began to grow, sprouting taller and thicker, with white thorny branches growing out and around, the ends bursting into little pink flowers. The young tree finally stopped growing when its spindly branches began to scrape the glass roof of the greenhouse. Emery smiled, making the mental note to have the tree moved and replanted out onto the school grounds somewhere.
