Hayward started his letter to professor Morrow’s friend, miss Elwyn, to request several sources he thought he might need based on the rumors he could remember about the Dark Lord. Of course, the article was the most important one..
As he’d expected his parents were very enthusiastic about his project, especially given his goal of proving unequivocally that the Dark Lord was the pureblooded heir of Slytherin. His mother even mentioned in her letter that his father was prepared to use some of his contacts to get his project published if it got the desired results. This made Hayward even more determined to succeed in his quest.
Hayward pulled the letter from his mother closer to him to check what she’d written about the article. His mother had written extensively about what she could remember about the article, which she’d read in the Healer’s office when she was there for a check-up. Fortunately she’d remembered the name of the magazine, because she’d found it to be so ridiculous it had stuck in her memories. She also remembered it was all about Harry Potter. But exact details were a bit more fuzzy. No matter, Hayward thought, he’d just write down what he did know and hope Miss Elwyn would be able to find it that way. He also requested a family lineage book written by a Gaunt that his father had mentioned as a possible source, but that they didn’t have in the family library. Why would they? The only family lineage books they had were either newer or about their family.
After a bit of thinking, he also added the newest edition of Hogwarts a History to his request, as he’d found out that the library didn’t have the latest edition. Hayward considered it important to have that one, as it had been edited by Hermione Granger, a close friend of Harry Potter and was rumored to hold several stories about Harry Potter’s encounters with the Dark Lord in there. It might be more detailed on some points than whatever interview Harry Potter had given about the Dark Lord. He read it over one more time.
Dear Miss Elwyn,
my name is Hayward Morrell and I am a first year student at Aurora Borealis. I am working on a project for History of Magic and professor Morrow told me you might be able to help me find some of the sources I need. I have made a list below of the sources I am looking for and I hope you will be able to help me find them.
Sources I am looking for:
* The issue of the British magazine The Quibbler called Harry Potter Tells All, published a few months after the Battle of Hogwarts. It consists entirely of articles based on interviews with Harry Potter. I am sorry I cannot be more specific as to when it was published. Also, the title might be slightly different, but this is the title my mother remembers.
*The book Our Family’s Noble Lineage by Langford Gaunt, published in 1502
*Hogwarts: A History by Batilda Bagshot, the updated version with Hermione Granger as editor and co-contributor.
I am hoping that you can acquire these resources for me. Of course, I will ensure proper compensation for your efforts.
Eagerly awaiting your owl,
Hayward Caius Morrell
Not seeing anything he needed to change or add, Hayward rolled up the scroll and tied it with a leather string. He walked to the owlery, where Portia noisily made her pleasure known at being given yet another letter to deliver. Hayward laughed as she soared down from her place in the rafters so he could tie the letter to her feet. “Take this to Miss Elwyn down in Snowy Vale, okay girl?” Hayward said. “Wait for an answer, unless she tells you you can go.”
Portia nibbled on his finger before taking flight and leaving the owlery through one of the windowless openings in the wall. Hayward watched as the scops owl turned smaller and smaller until he couldn’t see her anymore. Then he went back to the Leona common room, knowing that it might be a while before he had an answer. Being impatient to start wouldn’t change that, so instead he decided he’d focus on getting all of his other work out of the way. That way he could start on the project right away when he got his sources.
