Which TWO Houses would you most like to be sorted into, and why? n/a
Wand: 11 and ¾ inches, made from black walnut with a dragon heartstring core. It’s springy, darkly colored and roughly carved.
Pets: an average sized female spotted owl, named Morgana.
Other Items:
His own grimoire, which is a leather-bound book used to record his thoughts and actions, as well as spells, potions and other things he comes up with. It’s blood-bound to him so only Thaddeus and those blood-related to him can open it, and he has further warded it so that during his lifetime only he can open it. He started it while at Durmstrang and it will be added to the family library upon his death, where all of the grimoires of his forefathers are kept.
A glass bottle that is spelled to be indestructible. It contains a lavender potion that slightly sparkles when held up to the light. The potion will induce paranoia in whoever is dosed with it. One drop a day will induce a light paranoia that will increasingly get worse as the potions builds up in the system. It’s odorless but not colorless, but a single drop in something is unlikely to be noticeable, unless it’s something like water that would change color. Thaddeus bought this potion from a shop in the shadier part of the magical district of New York while under a disguise.
A double-edged long sword, goblin-crafted. This is a family heirloom and Thaddeus used it while in the dueling circuit. It’s very plain, with a silver grip covered by dragonhide and a silver pear-shaped pommel.
---FOR ADULT CHARACTERS---
Occupation: Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, started working at Aurora when he was 35, so has been there for three years now.
Which school(s) did they attend? Durmstrang Institute, after which he became apprenticed to Master Algernon Shaw for four years in order to achieve a Defense Against the Dark Arts Mastery.
-PERSONALITY-
Likes: The Dark Arts, politics, dueling, divination, fashion, fine dining
Dislikes: Muggles and Muggleborn, half-bloods who don’t know their place, uppity women, being called English (he’s Scottish!), meat.
Strengths: Dueling (with wand and sword), socially savvy, inventing new spells, ward-breaking, seducing women
Weaknesses: Controlling, short-tempered, hypocritical, can’t cook, potion making
Habits: Clenching his teeth when he’s annoyed, sniffing in derision when something doesn’t please him.
Overall Personality: Thaddeus is a misogynistic bastard who is prejudiced against everything that’s not pureblood. He’d like to see all Muggles dead, Muggleborns enslaved or dead, and half-bloods only in minor and menial positions, like shop assistant. He’s also hypocritical, because behavior that he exhibits he disapproves of in others. He wants to elevate his pureblood house into the upper echelons and is willing to lie, steal and cheat his way to the top. He distrusts most people, is short-tempered, and in one word can be called a bastard. However, he can be charming as well, especially with women. He likes the finer things in life and if he sees you as an equal (or better than him) he’ll be friendly and charming. If he sees you as inferior, he will be dismissive at best and hateful at worst.
-HISTORY-
Hometown: He was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. He went to school in Scandinavia, at the Durmstrang Institute and after that moved to Philadelphia for four years to study under Algernon Shaw for his Defense Against the Dark Arts mastery. Once he’d completed that, he travelled the world following the dueling circuit. About five years ago, Thaddeus quit the dueling circuit and moved to New York with his family. Three years ago he took a position at Aurora as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and thus spends most of the year living in the professor quarters at Aurora. His family remained in New York.
Family: The Wiggleswade family is a minor, very proud pureblood house from Scotland.
Cadmus Broderick Wiggleswade- deceased, pureblood. Thaddeus’ father, who joined Voldemort during his first rise. He was never connected to Voldemort and thus walked free after Voldemort’s defeat in 1981. Cadmus died when Thaddeus was sixteen and thus didn’t join Voldemort during his second rise. The official reason is dragonpox, but the true reason is a Dark Arts ritual gone wrong.
Victoria Matilda Wiggleswade – 59, pureblood. Thaddeus’ mother, who still lives in their ancestral family townhouse in Scotland and takes care of the family holdings in Great-Britain, few though they are.
Eloise Marilène Wiggleswade – 34, pureblood. Thaddeus’ wife, who currently lives in New York penthouse. Divorce proceedings are in progress.
Gregory Aries Wiggleswade – 11, pureblood. Thaddeus’ son, who has just started his first year at the Durmstrang Institute. He might take after his mother in looks, but he’s very much his father’s son and heir.
Overall History:
The Wiggleswade family is a minor, very proud pureblood house from Scotland. They are a traditionally dark family and Thaddeus’ father joined Voldemort during his first rise. He was never connected to any Death Eater activities so walked free after Voldemort’s fall in 1981. Thaddeus was four at the time. He was homeschooled in the family’s ancestral townhouse in Glasgow.
Thaddeus went to the Durmstrang Institute, as is family tradition. When Thaddeus was in his sixth year, sixteen years old, Thaddeus got the message that his father had died from dragonpox. It was not until he came home for Easter that he learned the true story from his mother, namely that his father had died while performing a Dark Arts ritual that had gone horribly wrong. Upon his father’s death, Thaddeus took over as Head of the Family, though he wouldn’t be able to take control of the family holdings until his majority a year later. His mother acted as Regent until he turned seventeen. When he turned seventeen he discovered that his father had squandered a lot of the family’s fortune. Their vault was mostly empty, though thankfully the family home as well as heirlooms – including the portraits, library, weapons and jewelry – were still intact.
Upon leaving Durmstrang, Thaddeus sought an apprenticeship to achieve his DADA Mastery. He was accepted as an apprentice by Algernon Shaw and moved to the United States to study under him in Philadelphia. He was there for the four years it took him to achieve his mastery. If it hadn’t been for his studies – first at Durmstrang and then in the States, he probably would have joined Voldemort. He never got the change, though, because half-way through his mastery Harry Potter defeated Voldemort, much to Thaddeus’ horror.
By the time Thaddeus had his mastery, Great-Britain was already a changed country, becoming far too light for Thaddeus’ tastes. So instead of returning to Scotland, he went into the dueling circuit, travelling the world to take part in dueling competitions. He took part in the categories wand duel, sword duel and mixed duel (using both wands and one other weapon at the same time). He made quite a name for himself and earned a lot of money as well.
It was during this time that Thaddeus met his wife. He was 25 at the time and in France. He courted Eloise and married her a year later. She travelled with him as he followed the dueling circuit. She became pregnant soon after they were married, and Thaddeus became a father at 27 to a son, Gregory. At first his family continued to travel with him, but shortly before Gregory turned two it was decided that it would be best if Eloise and Gregory moved into the townhouse in Glasgow with Thaddeus’ mother so they had a steady home.
Thaddeus continued to travel the dueling circuit, only taking short breaks every few months to go and visit his family. During his travels, he often seduced women into his bed – some for only a night, some for a little longer. Then, Thaddeus witnessed a man burning to death in a duel. Not long after that, Thaddeus himself got injured during a duel. He was hit with a slashing hex and didn’t realize how deep it was until after the duel. He carries the scar to this day. Those two events made Thaddeus decide to quit the dueling circuit.
Thaddeus still wasn’t keen on living in the very Light Great-Britain, so he bought a penthouse in the magical district of New York and moved Eloise and Gregory there. Four years after their separation, the family was complete again. But whatever love was between them had cooled considerably and their relationship, while cordial, didn’t get back to romantic again. Instead, Thaddeus took over the education of his son, now 6 years old. For the next two years, he formed Gregory into being what Thaddeus considers a perfect heir.
But Thaddeus’ ambitions are for his family to go from minor to major when it comes to pureblood hierarchy. Sitting at home wouldn’t accomplish this, so two years after quitting the dueling circuit he took a position as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Aurora in order to build up some extra respectability before perhaps going into politics. He has been the DADA professor for the last three years.
During the year, he lives at Aurora in the professor quarters and carries on his dalliances with women. Unfortunately, he has recently discovered that his wife Eloise has been having an affair. While he does not love her anymore, she did give him his heir and as such he would have accorded her all of the privileges she was entitled to as a Wiggleswade, including not rubbing his own dalliances in her face, as was proper for a gentleman. Unfortunately for her, Thaddeus cannot condone unfaithfulness and as such he has started the divorce procedure. Soon, she will be cast off and Thaddeus will be a free agent again. His son, Gregory, has recently turned 11, and starting his first year at Durmstrang. Thaddeus is happy Gregory seems to understand why his mother is no longer suitable to carry the Wiggeswade name.
Currently, Thaddeus takes great pleasure in the prestige one gets from being a professor at an institute like Aurora Borealis. He’s also heard whispers of the Dark rising again from the ashes of Voldemort’s campaign. He hopes they’re true.
{OPTIONAL}
Mirror of Erised: Thaddeus wants to elevate his pureblood house into the upper echelons and therefore sees himself in a prominent position among the Family Heads of the great lineages.
Boggart: Being forgotten – his boggart is an influencial figure (the boggart will shift through several of them) who all proclaim never to have heard of the Wiggleswade name, let alone Thaddeus Wiggleswade.
Dementor: Thaddeus was watching a duel in India, when one of the duelers used a flame whip on his opponent. The opponent, however, had just cast an air spell meant to produce a gust of wind that reacted with the fire whip. A large fireball was the result, which exploded into the face of the dueler that used the flame whip. The man burned to death before anyone could douse the flames. The smell of burning flesh still makes Thaddeus nauseous and ever since he’s a vegetarian.
Patronus: Siberian Tiger – The moment his son was placed into his arms and Thaddeus realized the Wiggleswade name would live on in him.

Hayward took the crumpled list from the list from the professor after writing a few more organizing ideas on his own list. Quickly looking it over, he saw book titles interspersed with things that looked like codes. They seemed to have some sort of system, and there were several words used in them that Hayward recognized, but the actual code was kind of confusing. No matter, if he came across a scroll marked with the code he knew to set it aside. After all, you didn’t need to understand a code to recognize it.
He slid his own parchment into his bag, afraid it would get lost between the professor’s papers. “Sure, professor. I’ll just get started over here.” Hayward pointed to a bookcase that was overflowing with books and papers. In fact, it had overflowed already and there were several stacks on the ground around it as well. Hayward thought it would be a good place to start.
Hayward sank down on the floor by the piles and started sorting through them. He made three stacks for now. One was for sources that were on his list, another for all the loose papers and parchments, and yet another was for books that weren’t on the source list. Hayward wasn’t at all surprised that that stack was the one that grew the fastest.
It was a bit of challenge not to stop and read some of the books he was sorting through, as there were several that drew Hayward’s attention. Then Hayward pulled one book from the stack he was sorting through that looked very different than any other book he’d ever seen. It had a glossy cover and crisp, white paper that felt thinner than the usual parchment books were made off. It was a book about a town and it was on the list of sources the professor had given him. Unable to contain his curiosity he opened it and leafed through it. What caught his attention the most were the pictures, some of them with people in them. Stationary people. None of the pictures were moving in the slightest. It was very curious.
“Professor, what kind of a book is this?” Hayward asked, holding up the book so the professor could see. “The paper’s weird and none of the pictures move.”
