FAQ: Playing on the Site

Can I post more than one of my characters in one post on a thread?

Yes, if they are both there. To save confusion, please differentiate the two characters somehow, either with an actual line between the two or with different colors or fonts.

What kinds of pets can my character have?

Aurora allows a wide range of pets, provided they are properly taken care of. The school menagerie has room for larger pets if they need extra space. Magical pets must be approved first.

Can I play a canon character or a canon character's relative?

No, sorry! This is strictly an original RP. No canon characters allowed.

Can my character have attended Hogwarts?

Sure, if you can come up with a good reason why they're now at Aurora. (Did they transfer? Did they graduate from Hogwarts but got hired at Aurora? Did they move? Are they running away from something? Use this as a way to develop your character's backstory!)

Can I play a werewolf/vampire/metamorphmagus/animagus/fairy/other magical entity?

We have a limit on supernatural characters at the moment--no more than three of a kind in the group.  That means that if we have three vampires, you can't make another one.  That being said, feel free to make your character a werewolf or a vampire or an animagus, or any other entity (within reason; hybrid unicorn-mermaid-angels and such are a bit too silly for us...) Just be aware of the other characters in the group and don't let the supernatural element of your character be their single defining characteristic.

What are the rules about playing NPCs?

NPCs are allowed as long at the person you're RPing with agrees to it. If you want to make a new NPC for use in more than one thread, please add the character to the NPC Directory.  You may also turn a playable character into an NPC if you no longer wish to play that character. 
  
Do we have to give out house points in threads or can we just read other's threads and appoint house points?

NO, it must be plausible for the professor to 'see' what happened in order to give or take points therefore your character has to be in the thread to award or take away points.

Do we have to record points given or taken away in threads?

Only if you want them to count toward the houses' tally. Points are recorded here.

Does my student have to RP in class threads?

No. Your student will get house points for posting in those thread but no points will be taken away if you don't post.

Does my student have to sign into all the classes he signed up for?

Yes, unless you want him to lose points. If your character is purposely skipping class, then don't sign in and prepare for consequences!

Do I actually have to put up a class thread for my professor?

No, but you do at least need a sign in thread (see next question).

Do I have to make a sign up thread for my classes?

We'd like you to, yes. If you are absolutely dead set against it or don't have time or something, ask a mod and we'll put one up for you.
