-PERSONALITY-
Likes: Collecting things for his nature journal, herbology, reading, learning, intellectual challenges, puzzles (both literal and metaphorical ones)
Dislikes: Laziness, rules when they stand in the way of something he wants, people interrupting him while he’s reading, the sight of blood, vain people, divination (he makes his own future, thank you very much)
Strengths: Self-confident, intelligent, lying (handy for when he breaks the rules, which is more often that you’d think), identifying plants, open-minded
Weaknesses: His curiosity (as it often gets him into trouble), impulsive, impatient, meddlesome
Habits: Picky eater, prone to tapping his fingers on something when nervous.
Overall Personality:
Trevor’s a Muggleborn and his background has made him very open-minded to all sorts of people. He just doesn’t have the prejudice that so many magic-raised people have developed. He’s a big fan of learning and nature and if he’s not reading a book he can often be found outside. Trevor’s got a thirst for knowledge and is curious about everything. He can’t stand lazy people, especially intellectually lazy people who are not interested in things. He couldn’t care less about his looks and doesn’t like people who care overly much about theirs. But if you approach him, he’s quite willing to talk to you. Unless you interrupt him when he’s reading a book, then he can be quite curt. Unless you interrupt with a nice intellectual challenge, then you’d have his interest caught quite handily.
Trevor likes puzzles, mysteries and finding out things. What he doesn’t care about is rules standing in his way, especially when he’s trying to learn something. So he often breaks the rules and as a result has learned to lie quite well when he’s caught. He’s somewhat impulse and impatient, and coupled with his meddlesome nature – he just can’t keep his nose out of things! – it gets him into trouble sometimes. Luckily he’s self-confident and intelligent enough to usually find his way out of trouble too.
-HISTORY-
Hometown: Trevor’s a born and bred Californian who has lived his whole life in Los Angeles with his parents.
Family: His parents are Muggles. His father, Benjamin, is an accountant and his mother Diana is a primary school teacher.
Overall History:
Trevor’s done weird things from a young age, but it wasn’t until he was eleven and got an invitation to attend Aurora that he (and his parents) learned he was a wizard. His parents were happy to finally have an explanation and Trevor was ecstatic to be learning magic. Going to Aurora, though, was a big change. For one, it was a lot colder up north than in sunny California. For another, it was the first time he was away from home for a longer period of time, and it was in an entirely foreign to him world. But that was what made it ultimately all worth it. There were so many new things to learn!
Trevor settled in well at Aurora and although he doesn’t have many friends, he’s content with the ones he does have. He’s taken his OWLS and done very well in them. He didn’t have anything lower than an Exceeds Expectations. He’s taken a broad range of classes for his last two years, because he’s not quite sure what kind of career he wants yet. It might be something with herbology, but he’s also contemplating being a curse breaker or a ward maker. So he’s keeping his options open. He also plans to try out for the Quidditch team this year and has been made a Prefect.
There is one slightly less pleasant development in Trevor’s life. The longer he’s at Aurora and the more he feels a part of the magical world, the more of a disconnect he feels with his parents. He spends most of the year in the magical world and when he gets back to Los Angeles, he’s got no clue about what’s been happening on the Muggle side of things. He doesn’t keep up with the latest technology and news or even gossip. His parents, on the other hand, don’t know or understand the magical world he lives in now. It leaves them with very little in common and nothing to talk about that would bridge the ever-growing gap.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Mirror of Erised: Himself wearing the Head Boy badge
Boggart: His NEWT results, presented to him by his head of house. They’re all Trolls..
Dementor: Getting lost in the mall when he was four years old. He got separated from his mother while they were shopping for Christmas. The mall was very busy and Trevor was small for his age. He remembers looking up at all the people rushing around and not finding his mother. He feared he’d be lost forever. Luckily for him a security guard found him when he started crying and reunited him with his mother.
Patronus: American Wirehair (a domestic cat type). The memory Trevor uses is the one where he performed his first spell – deliberately – which was in Charms class where he cast Wingardium Leviosa. While he’s gotten a corporeal patronus several times, it’s still a bit hit and miss. He does always manage a patronus shield, though, so he’s determined to keep practicing.
-PLAYER-
Alias: Samantha
Experience: several months, years ago. Not counting the few days I’ve been active on this board.
Other Characters: Hayward Caius Morrell and Professor Rita Linnea Dearborn.
Your word of honor that you have read the rules: read them and liked them.
Sample RP:
Rita had decided that it would probably be best if the first field trip for her Care of Magical Creatures Field Study was a fairly easy one. It would allow her to iron out any kinks in the process before taking a group of students on a potentially more dangerous trip. That meant she’d called in a favor and gotten them a portkey to the Creature Rescue Reserve, where creatures that had been rescued in some way or the other but were unable to return to the wild had a home.
Rita had chosen to dress today in a comfortable, dark green robe and dragon-hide boots. She had a backpack with her that contained everything she might need this lesson, and several things she hoped she wouldn’t need. Like a first aid kit filled with medical potions. She stood in front of the Managerie, the agreed upon gathering point, with a long length of rope in her hands that was the portkey to the Reserve.
“Gather around everyone,” she called out to the arriving students. “We have a few minutes before our portkey leaves, but I don’t want anyone to be left behind, so please grab a hold already.”
With another look at her watch, Rita decided that she could say a few things before the portkey left. She had the time.
“Now, today we’ll be going to the Creature Rescue Reserve to see one of their recently rescued animals. A magnificent sphinx that was illegally obtained and held captive. It went to the Reserve after it was confiscated by aurors and is currently recovering in the Reserve. Once it’s healed, it will be released into the wild again. We’re in luck, as you’ll even be able to interact with the sphinx. You will all get a chance to figure out one of the sphinx’s riddles, if you’d like. But do bear in mind we’re guests at the Reserve and be on your best manners.” She looked at the gathered students sternly. “Any questions before we leave, please feel to ask. But be brief, as we only have three more minutes until the portkey leaves.”
