The Managerie is a truly magical building. It can be arranged and re-arranged at will by Professor Dearborn to accommodate whatever animals are currently kept there. Considering her habit of taking in wounded animals she finds and nursing them back to health, there is usually a mixture of healthy and wounded animals present.
The stable area of the Managerie houses several of the larger animals and is quite large. The school has a small herd of thestrals and five Abraxans. The thestrals can usually be found in the pastures, although sometimes they are kept inside so the Abraxans can use the pastures. Aside from their residents, the stable area looks just like any horse stable.
The other wing of the Managerie has pens in which smaller animals are kept. These pens can be customized to create an ideal habitat for their residents. They can be large or small depending on what size their resident is and whether or not that creature is alone or in a small group. The first half of these pens are accessible to students. As the walk into this wing they will currently find:
In the first pen to the right are three crups, about three months old. They’re in a medium sized pen with a waist high mesh fence, which has a soft blanket on the floor, a water bowl, a food bowl, and a lot of toys, many of which are chewed beyond recognition.
The second pen to the right also has a waist high mesh fence, which runs down into the ground for another fifty feet on all sides of the pen unseen as to prevent the two Nifflers inside from escaping. The Nifflers are rarely seen outside of their lair below the surface during the day, preferring to only come out during dusk. They’re a male and a female and the professor hopes they’ll produce a little come spring.
The third pen to the right has a glass wall in front of it instead of a mesh fence. The inside is fairly large and has been made to look like a small portion of a woodland glade. Several fairies can be seen flitting amongst the plants and if you look closely you can see many of the leaves of the highest tree have eggs attached to the underside of them.
The fourth pen also has a glass wall from top to bottom. Inside it is vegetation that resembles an African plain, though there’s a trail of shriveled up and burnt vegetation in there. There’s also a huge snail that changes color on an hourly basis inside, called a Streeler.
The fifth pen to the right has a large mesh fence that reaches the ceiling. Inside the pen is a tree that holds several Clabberts.
First five pens to the left: these pens hold whatever animal is currently being studied by the Care of Magical Creatures Class. Currently they are quite small and each contains a creature that resembles a hedgehog.
The first five pens are separated from the rest of the wing by a plain wooden door. Any student trying to walk past the first five pens through the door unaccompanied by the professor or another staff member will not be able to go through the door. Exception passes may be given to get past the enchantments on the doors. The pens in this part of the Managerie contain the more dangerous animals as well as the injured animals Professor Dearborn is taking care of. Currently the professor has a Tebo there, a wounded Jarvey, and a very rare breeding pair of Erklings.
((OOC: this description will be updated as things change in the Managerie. Some animals may be changed, or added, depending on class needs. If you want something added to the Managerie (or going missing, or look broken, or anything changed at al) for a thread you're planning, send me a PM! The Managerie is very flexible in configuration, so I'm sure we can work something out.))
