The diary is brand new, symbolical for Rita’s new beginning. It’s a soft lilac color with a picture of a white rose on the front. Rita picked it because it’s so different from her previous diary, which was a utilitarian brown leather book. It wasn’t even half-full when Eldred died, but she wanted a whole new start and that meant a whole new diary too.

Dear Diary,
I have arrived at Aurora. It’s comforting being here, almost like coming home again. Although to my great disappointment I have found that I’ve forgotten a lot about the castle. I can find my way to the Great Hall and most of the classrooms, the ones for the classes I took as a student, but since I never went into any of the areas reserved for the professors I still find myself hopelessly lost at times. I wish I had a map of the place, but I fear that even with a map I would still find myself lost.
My new rooms are basic, all with neutral colors and plain furniture. But I have a lovely view of the grounds from my sitting room and I’m quite happy with them. I’m already planning on what colors to use where. I suspect I will end up various shades of green in the living room, which would see that color used in the kitchen too as it’s open and quite small. Then again, I doubt I will have much use for it aside from preparing a snack or some tea. The bedroom I think I’ll use a light blue, not too bright and soothing. I need that, as I’m having some trouble sleeping at the moment. There’s so much to be done! But I’m digressing. The bathroom I think I might make a cheery yellow. Or perhaps purple. Then there’s also an office, but I might end up turning that into a potions lab. After all, I have an office next to my classroom as well. Why have two when I can have an office and a potions lab?
Right now I am focusing on getting my lesson plans complete and my classroom ready. I also need to check out the Managerie and see if there are any animals I need to bring in for the lesson I am planning until Christmas. So much to do, so little time before the students arrive. I will admit to being quite nervous about teaching, but I am determined to give it my all.
