Rita had made sure to arrive early to her classroom, as she wanted to have everything perfect before her students came. However, in her hurry to leave this morning, she’d thrown on the first robe she’d been able to grab out of her trunk with clothes . She still hadn’t unpacked everything, as she was still busy rearranging things in her rooms. That was why she was now wearing a rather old-fashioned brown robe with light green swirls at the hem and the edge of her sleeves. Still, she thought she pulled it off quite well since she’d combined it with a narrow-brimmed pointed hat in the same shade of green, courtesy of a color changing charm, and a pair of hoop earrings.
Rita took one last look around the room to make sure everything was in its place. Clean blackboard ready to use, check. Organized desk, with her lesson plans for today on them, check. Her mahogany-framed standing mirror in the corner at the front, next to the blackboard and visible to all students, check. It was, perhaps, a bit out of place, looking extremely old amidst the newer furniture of the classroom. But it would serve its purpose well, as Rita had used her time before school was in session well by recording a lot of animals in their natural habitat with it.
As her students began to enter, Rita read through her lesson plan for today one more time. Once the clock that hung in the back of the room let out a small chime to signify the start of the lesson, Rita stood up from her desk and flicked her wand at the door, which closed with a bang. She wouldn’t lock it – today, at least – but there would be no sneaking into her lesson late without repercussions.
“Good morning, class,” Rita said with a smile as she looked over her students. “I am Professor Dearborn and I will be teaching you all about magical creatures in this class. While it is called Care for Magical Creatures, you will also be learning about the laws that govern creatures, what they can be used for, both alive and dead, as well as other theoretical aspects of magical creatures. My class will always start with a theoretical part, after which I will give you your homework assignment. Then we will start the practical part of the class, which will mostly take place in the Managerie.”
She paused for a moment, to give the students time to take that in and give them time for any questions they might have.
