Which TWO Houses would you most like to be sorted into, and why? N/A
Wand: 10 ¼ inches, Pegasus feather, crab apple wood. It’s inflexible, with a medium tone and plainly carved.
Pets: None, though she frequently takes in wounded animals only to release them later on.
Other Items:
A mirror with a frame made of mahogany. It’s a standing mirror as tall as Rita herself. It's quite simple in design and appears to be extremely old. It has the power to record events and play them back later. She often uses it to observe shyer animals by leaving the mirror somewhere and picking it up the next day to see if it caught anything. It works quite well and Rita thinks it might make for a good teaching aid as well.
Not exactly an object, but also not a pet, Nippy is Rita's house-elf. He was gifted to Eldred and Rita by Lord Dearborn when they were married. Nippy's specifically trained to deal with potions - especially cleaning up failed potions experiments. Nippy is a fairly young elf, calm and dressed in a clean, cream-colored tea towel that's worn like a Greek toga.
---FOR ADULT CHARACTERS---
Occupation: Care of Magical Creatures Professor at Aurora Borealis. She just started working there. She's also been made the Head of House for Polera.
Which school(s) did they attend? Aurora graduate, Polera House.
-PERSONALITY-
Likes: Children, alchemy and potions (especially experimenting with them), animals of any kind, interior decorating, tea
Dislikes: Flying, pranks of any kind, ballroom dancing, poetry, people who don’t treat animals with the respect they deserve
Strengths: Potions, good with children and animals, organized, creative, outgoing, patient
Weaknesses: Emotionally fragile when it comes to romance, controlling, perfectionism (can be a strength, but she takes it too far sometimes), intellectual arrogance, no sense of direction, terrible singer.
Habits: Rita always drinks tea. She even has different teas for different times of the day and different moods. She only uses loose-leafed tea, never conjures her water or heats her water with magic, and is very particular about having nothing in her tea.
When stressed, Rita is prone to rearranging things, organizing them (again) and if she is really stressed she might even start redecorating an entire room.
Overall Personality: Rita’s overall a fairly happy character, but life hasn’t been good for her lately. On top of the deep but private grief of not having any children, she recently lost her husband Marcus. Their marriage was a good one, although Eldred had been drinking increasingly more heavily the past eight years. Rita’s a fairly serious person, though she’s also outgoing and open to meeting new people. In fact, Rita’s hoping to have a fresh new start at Aurora. After not having any children with her husband for which she fears the fault lies with her, even though she was never tested by a mediwizard, and then losing him in a drunken broom flying accident, Rita’s ready to take her life in a new direction. She’s open to meeting new people, but certainly not ready for a new romance. She guards her wounded heart fiercely and therefore sometimes treats men she thinks are attractive a bit colder than is perhaps warranted. If you want to get her talking, the topics of animals, potions, or even tea will do very well. Although she can be a bit arrogant when she thinks she’s right, she’s open to other people’s opinion too. She’s also a very patient person, especially when it comes to children and animals. Her perfectionism sometimes causes her stress, wanting to do everything right, and that’s visible because she keeps organizing things.
-HISTORY-
Hometown: Rita grew up on the family farm, which is unplottable and shielded from Muggles. It’s situated outside of Vauxhall. When she was married to Eldred, they had a potions shop in the magical district of Montreal, with an apartment above the shop. The plan was always to get a house with more room when Rita became pregnant, but that never happened. She’s sold this and currently only has her rooms at Aurora Borealis to call her own. Though she thinks she might buy something in Snowy Vale if things work out as a professor.
Family:
Late husband: Eldred Pollux Dearborn, second son of a second son of a family of great lineage, which has traditionally been neutral. Died age 40 of a broom accident while drunk. Was a potions master.
Father: Taurus Arcturus Powell, 62, Neutral, Supplier of potions ingredients to apothecaries, Pureblood but from a minor family. Lives on the family farm.
Mother: Valerie Powell (née Mallard), 61, Neutral, Lawyer, Muggleborn. Lives on the family farm.
Older brother: Max Cuthbert Powell, older brother, 40 years old, Neuatral, Works in the family business with his father. Lives on the family farm. His parents are pestering him to settle down and get to work on grandchildren who can inherit the farm.
Younger sister: Eliza Alathea Powell, younger sister, 35 years old, Neutral, Works as a mediwitch at the Salem Witches’ Academy in America.
Uncle-in-law: Lord Dearborn, head of the Dearborn family. 70 years old. He dabbles in politics, but mainly takes care of his estates and businesses.
Overall History:
Rita grew up in the magical world of Canada and has little knowledge of Muggles, even though her mother is a Muggleborn. Her family owns farm, where potions ingredients are grown to be commercially sold. She loved being outside as a child, surrounded by animals – from tiny ants to the large horses their family kept.
Rita had a carefree childhood and that didn’t change when she went to Aurora Borealis, where she was sorted into Polaris House. She felt right at home at school, where Care of Magical Creatures, Potions, and Charms were her best courses. After her NEWTS, she went to university. While Rita always like potions and was interested in them, she never wanted to go into the family business of growing. Besides, her brother was going into the family business, so there was no need. So she focused mainly on Care of Magical Creatures, with a minor focus on Potions. It was during this time that she met her husband Eldred, whose main focus was Potions. They shared classes and fell in love. During their last year, Eldred asked Rita to marry him and she said yes.
They got married two months after their graduation. Eldred started his own potions company after university as well. While Rita’s biggest passion had always been Care of Magical Creatures, Potions was right behind that and together with her husband they started to build their company. After a few years, things were going well enough that they started thinking about a family. But no matter how hard they tried, Rita didn’t become pregnant. She suggested going to a mediwizard, but Eldred was so against it that Rita let the suggestion drop.
A few months after that discussion, Eldred started drinking more regularly and in greater quantities. For the past eight years, his drinking problem grew worse and worse. Rita never stopped loving him, but she started hating the alcohol and the pub nights. Rita’s convinced Eldred’s drinking problem stemmed from the fact that they couldn’t have children.
It was in this period that Rita visited her sister Eliza in America. There, she hatched a desperate plan to get pregnant. She went out to a wizarding pub under the name Linnea Wilson and seduced a half-drunk wizard that looked kind of like her husband. She’d hoped she’d get pregnant from the one night stand and be able to pass off the child as Eldred’s. But aside from not getting pregnant, she felt so bad about cheating on her husband that she was never able to convince herself to give it another try.
The last two years, it was mainly Rita keeping their potions company afloat, though the work really was too much for her alone. Then Rita’s world came crashing down around her a few months ago as Aurors came to her door. Her husband had gone out to the pub and there someone had made a bet with him, she doesn’t even know what about. All she knows is that it ended in a broom race and a very drunk Eldred crashed his broom and broke his neck, dying instantly upon impact with the ground. Rita fears it’s all her fault. Even though there has been no confirmation from a mediwizard, Rita fears she’s infertile. If only she’d been able to give Eldred children, he never would have started drinking and he’d still be alive.
Rita could have fallen into a depression, but that’s not like her. She was determined to have a new, fresh start. She sold the company and her house, and took a new job at her alma mater Aurora Borealis as the Care of Magical Creatures Professor. She’s arrived with all her possessions in trunks and determined to make the best of her new situation. Once there, she was also asked to take the Head of House position for Polera, which she agreed to.
-Extra Information-
Mirror of Erised: Herself being surrounded by children of her own
Boggart: Her late husband, accusing her inability to have children as the reason he got drunk and died.
Dementor: The day Aurors came to her door with the news her husband had died. Rita doesn’t remember much after he told her, but she does remember screaming at him that he was lying, then breaking down in tears.
Patronus: Once she was able to cast a non-corporeal patronus with the memory of her wedding day. However, the cheating incident as well as the fear she caused Eldred’s drinking and thus dead by being infertile have tarnished the memory enough that she’s no longer able to cast even that much.

(I hope you guys don’t mind it’s a sample that I posted recently as Hayward. Otherwise, I’d be happy to write something as Rita)
Hayward entered the library and was greeted by the smell of books. For a moment, he stood still in the doorway, closed his eyes and just breathed in that sweet scent. There was nothing better, at least in his opinion. For a brief moment, Hayward felt a pang of homesickness, as the smell reminded him of the Morrell library, where he'd spent most of his childhood quite happily. But the feeling was fleeting, chased away by the vision of rows upon rows of books that he saw as he opened his eyes again.
He stepped further into the room and let his eyes slide over the books. There were many more books here than in the library at home, which was maybe a quarter of the size of the school library. He'd never seen so many all together outside of the book store. But unlike the book store, these were all free for him to read. The problem was where to start? Instead of trying to decide, Hayward just walked straight forward and was soon browsing the first row of books in front of him. He scoffed as he read some of the titles: Home Life and Social Habits of British Muggles, Muggles Who Notice, A Guide to Canadian Muggles, and Muggle Society in the Twentieth Century.
"It figures I'd end up in the Muggle Studies section," Hayward scoffed as he turned away in disgust.
The next path was far more to his liking, as it contained History of Magic texts. A quick look told him that most of the isle contained history books.
"Now that's more like it," he said with a smile.
Hayward browsed the stacks and started pulling out titles that sounded interesting. Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century was soon joined by Merlin's Quest: The Founding and Fall of Camelot and Important Modern Magical Discoveries. Three more books about Merlin made its way into Hayward's arms as well. He left The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore on the shelf, as he'd already read it. Armando Dippet: Master or Moron? did make it on his stack, as did the biography of the Aurora Borealis founders and a book about famous Aurora Borealis alumni. The ten books, some of them rather thick, were getting extremely heavy and Hayward couldn't really look over them any more, so he carefully began shuffling out of the row and into the direction of where he thought he'd seen a table as the stack tottered dangerously.
